I need a book from which I can learn Mandarin Chinese?

I am a college rookie. Recently I joined a club that pairs a native speaker A (who will soon learn / practice B) with a B-speakers (who will soon learn / practice A). I am learning English along with a woman who speaks Mandarin Chinese and wants. Of course we are not the language teachers, so my partner had the idea that maybe I could buy a workbook / textbook (preferably with a Audio Companion), they could help me. Does anyone have any recommendations of this? I just see what the Chinese are, of course, intro used at my school, but I am not sure. It could be somewhere else cheaper / better books. I do not speak Chinese, so I'll be starting from a basic level. And I want to speak and to read and to write the characters.
