Why do designers make over the top outfits for fashion shows?

It's not like someone going to wear that on the street, I do not understand why make they are shown on the top outfits too, on a runway.

Speak for yourself – I have carried people to the streets of Paris couture from Chanel straight start and Viewed runway shows within a few weeks after her debut =] Manhattan, too. They would be verrry surprised.
